The great artist Jean Dubuffet was very influenced by Outsider Art and characterized it as: “Those works created from solitude and from pure and authentic creative impulses – where the worries of competition, acclaim and social promotion do not interfere”.
Local Philly artist Jill Bonovitz and husband Sheldon have been collecting Outsider Art way before it was popular. Once upon a time you needed a dinner invitation to view l’art brut but now they have shared their incredible collection with the entire world at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
