Archives For Thomas

Obviously influenced by the conceptual photographic artist John Baldessari and his ever present dots, Julie Cockburn takes it another step further and proves the more time you spend on your work the better you can see it. By stitching or collaging directly onto found photographs she makes them all her own. See her current exhibition at Yossi Milo.

The Altered Found Photographs of Julie Cockburn

!Happy New Year!

Let’s start out the year in a simple fashion. John Legend needs only an old piano and a crowed office to sound amazing. A sweet 15 minute Tiny Desk Concert from the folks at NPR who have gotten just about everyone to sing in their office.

And a few of my favorite women musical artists of 2013 with Buika who’s emotional/vocal chops are mind blowing and Laura Mvula (coming in at a tie for first) gets two as her cover of Michael Jackson’s song is incredible. (There are two even better live Mvula videos on this blog here.)

Happy New Year Music

My favorite works of Josiah MecElheny are made out of glass. They are extremely beautiful and memorizing. Here is a short piece regarding his thoughts on beauty and art. (Not very popular in the art world for a number of reasons he covers and challenges…)

Great addition to your holiday music collection that isn’t exactly holiday music (but in the spirit of the holidaze)… Merry Xmas!

The Exhibition: Boris Mikhailov Four Decades is a 40 year small but knockout survey of one of the most famous Russian photographers alive. See the reality of a failed empire through the eyes of an artist.
