The Atlas of Photographic Processes

Martin Kollar was invited to Israel to make some pictures. What he came back with is so unique and so uniquely Martin Kollar that you really can’t see the world any other way except through his eyes. This is the mark of all great photographers. Mr. Kollar has a photographic vision that is both absurd, surreal and brutally honest. His book Field Trip is published by Mack Books.

“Some of the places I had the impression that I was on a film set, and I tried to bring this to the images. You don’t really know when the reality and the fiction somehow stops and starts.”

“For over thirty-five years, James Welling has created beautiful and uncompromising photographs, and continues to be lauded by photographers, artists, and critics for his influence on the contemporary generation of art photographers. Operating in the hybrid ground between painting, sculpture, and traditional photography, Welling is first and foremost a photographic practitioner enthralled with the possibilities of the medium. James Welling: Monograph provides the most thorough presentation of the artist’s work to date, as well as offering an indispensable resource for those interested in this artist’s remarkable, foundational practice”.

Making the very personal very public photographer Guillaume Simoneau documents the interruption of war on the love affair of his life. Except in this story it’s the brave young woman that goes off to fight the war she never should have and of course changing everyone’s world forever.  Not the narrative you quite expect but more a sweet and tender love letter to Guillaume’s memories cast in the shadow of turbulent times. You can pick up the book here

LOVE AND WAR:

Photographs by Guillaume Simoneau

While many images are (for me) a little too detached and scientifically cool, Marten Lange’s series on the natural world titled Another Language is really wonderful and a great example of how to pace your images in a series and especially how the series becomes more important than each individual image. A great book to look at if you are thinking about how photographs work together and more importantly how they function as a language.
